M1A1 Abrams Tank. 3D Military Cakes

YAY! What fun...we built a TANK! It always feels like when I think about wanting to tackle a new idea for a cake...we get a call in from an amazing customer and they ask for the exact idea I've been pondering over! YAY!! We built an M1A1 Abrams Tank for a wonderful client. She was wishing her husband and good friends a safe deployment to Iraq, by providing them with a cake of the very Tank they work with. I can't wait to hear the reactions! We really appreciate the support Our Soldiers bring to our country and the support of the families who stay behind praying for their safe return.
We love our Military Families

The Last Air Bender, The Avatar. 3D Cake

We had the chance to make a neat fun cake for a sweet family! Our customer wanted Aang, The Last Air Bender, The Avatar. We created his face and head. We found lots of cool pictures to gain inspiration from, but in the end, I really fell in love with the mood of Aang upset, getting ready to go into battle. Hopefully next time, we will create the entire body! If you have any questions, please leave a comment or E-mail Funky Monkey Cakes at iris@funkymonkeycakes.com

RV Cake, Old Woman Cake and TinkerBell Cake

Good Evening Folks!
We had 5 cakes this week. 1 Wedding Cake, 1 military hat cake, 1 tinkerbell cake, 1 RV Camper Cake and finally 1 3D Cake of a woman made to look waaay past her age. (giggling)
The "Over the Hill Cake" was fun because the customer wanted to make his wife laugh. I'm sure it will be a story for years to come...about the cake she got for her birthday. Here's a pic.
Now she didn't look like this. She is a young and beautiful woman...but her husband really wanted to prank her and make her laugh. We also created a fun RV Camper Cake.

I hand painted the stripes and logo on the cake! My favorite part is the hitch...I don't know why...but it just is. I wanna open the little door and peek inside..but all you'd find is Chocolate cake with Buttercream icing! YUMM! Then there is Ms. Tinkerbell and her friends.

Each little friend is hand created from sugar. They looked so cute on the cake. My favorite part of this cake is the green vines and ivy leaves. So so pretty. I airbrushed the cake in purple and blue to create the effect the customer wanted. I think she picked a beautiful combination of colors...don't you think? I would have posted the other cakes but one of them was a remake of another. Sometimes customers want a cake we've already created for someone else. So there is no need for me to duplicate the photo. All in all...we had one busy weekend. Time to Bar-B-Que tomorrow and enjoy the planned day of fun for the family.

Columbus Georgia Bridal Expo with Funky Monkey Cakes

Bridal Expo and Funky Monkey Cakes!

Good Evening Friends-
Boy o Boy my feet are killing me! (giggling)
Today we visited with some of the best Brides and Grooms out there!
Funky Monkey Cakes was able to share pictures and kind words with everyone who had a question or wanted to learn more about us! My favorite part of the day was seeing our guests reactions once they tried the minicupcakes. We wanted our guests to try Fondant. We normally get many questions about the taste of Fondant and today we brought it to them. We use Satin Ice Rolled Fondant. It is one of the best in America and tastes just so sweet and tender. http://www.satinfinefoods.com/testimonials.htm <--Please click on this link to learn from top bakers about the Satin Ice product that Funky Monkey Cakes uese in all our cakes) I was shocked to learn that some Brides have been told in the past that Fondant is not for consumption...only for the "look". WOW...No..that is not true guys. Fondant is more than just the "look"...it is delicious and adds a whole new spin on tasty treats. FMC will continue this in our shows...so our customers and guests will each have the opportunity to taste what Fondant is like and learn a little more. It's really a great medium and allows for beautiful stunning artwork to come forth in sugar. Thank you for stopping by our booth and visiting with us. We really enjoyed every smile and every hand shake. We look forward to serving you. If you have any quetions, please write or call us!
Warmest Wishes- Iris

Funky Monkey Cakes' New Logo

Hello World!
We now have our very own logo! Check it out!

And it's been a while......since I last posted in our blog. (woosh!)
We have been so incredibly busy (which is a good thing) and I've been bad at writing in the blog since the pick up of new orders. BUT...I will make good on writing again.
We recently added about 6 new cakes to the portfolio since I last wrote. Yesterday We delivered a beautiful 4 tier Wedding Cake in Columbus Georgia.

The top and bottom tier are White Cake with Strawberry fruit filling (YUMMERS!) and the 2nd and 3rd tier are Chocolate with Butter Cream light filling. Her colors were so pretty! I loved the aqua/brown/ivory colors she chose for her layouts of just about everything! She called us today, the day after her Wedding to let me know how thankful she was for her cake and how OH SO DELICIOUS it was.
The month of September is looking crazy busy for us too.
Stay tuned for better blogs, and pictures and crazy adventures!

West Point Cadet's Surprise Birthday Cake and a Wedding Cake!

Hello World !
This is one of the best weeks ever! I would say my week began last Thursday, when we created the Car and the Dino and the week is just getting better! Yesterday we delivered a beautiful surprise cake to a West Point Cadet! His beautiful Mom called us, and you could just hear the love she has for her son. She wanted to give him a birthday party even though she was far away. With the help and wonderful coordination of Holiday Inn, we set up a fantastic birthday setup! Funky Monkey Cakes built the Army soft cap for cake, we brought balloons in Gold and Black and lemme just say...IT WAS AWESOME!

We love our Military Families so very very much. It was more than an honor to do this work for them, it was a calling to serve those who serve the world! This Nation is a blessed and set-apart Nation. My husband is a soldier and we are a Military Family. Our hearts are theirs.
(tearing up)
Here is Iain's Birthday Cake!

My husband created the concept for Iain's Cake and I executed the orders! It was a great teamwork! My husband is a soldier by day and a baker by night. He bakes, I create the art!

The next day we decorated and delivered this Beautiful simple Wedding Cake to a beautiful family. Our customer wanted to surprise her son and new daughter in law with this special wedding cake. Her son graduated from Basic Training today and then married his sweetheart all in one day! The new husband and wife had no idea this was in the works.

I gotta say...I really really love working on surprise cakes! It's so fun and I'm grateful we can help serve our Proud Military Parents!

The work is not over...I'm currently working on sugar details for a fun Diva Cake and a 21st Birthday Cake and lastly some Yo Gabba Gabba Cupcakes! :)

My break time is just about over, I will upload pics as soon as these next cakes are completed.
Sweet Dreaming tonight-

Optimus Prime Birthday Cake, Happy 4th of July too

Hello World!

Happy 4th of July and Thanks be to God for this land. A truly blessed land. I love my country!

Gratitude from our family to all our Soldiers who serve this beautiful country! Special Love and thanks to my very own soldier...my wonderful loving husband.

Today Funky Monkey Cakes completed a very cool birthday cake!

Optimus Prime from the movies we've enjoyed lately! This little guy is having his Birthday party and then off to see Transformers 2!

I had to study the face of the new optimus...not the old cartoon character. I think I got close! Here's a picture!..

We have a few more angles of him on our Website!, Our favorite part of this cake is the eyes! In the movie...his eyes glow an awesome bright neon blue. My husband jokingly asked, "So, how are you going to capture the eyes? Those eyes glow on the movie screen." I responded with the usual, "I dunno, but I'm going to try."

TRY TRY AND TRY. Don't give up. My Dad and his wisdom comes to mind in this lesson...He used to tell me, "Anything you do, you have to envision yourself there, envision yourself doing it right, see yourself doing it over and over and over...and do it. Practice makes perfect, but mental practice is more than half the game!" Of course Daddy would tell me this before a big Basketball game, but I've always recall my Father's wisdom in just about every moment of my life. (i love you Daddy!)

I hand piped light blue royal icing on white fondant to recreate the glowing bright blue eyes! In the movie, you can see each tiny blue light, so yes...I sat there and piped each little blue light. What's your favorite part of this cake?(comment on the bottom)

We love 3D orders, so please keep them coming! Gonna have a Barbecue now with my Family! Have a great day yall and happy times!
Sweet Wishes-
Iris

AUTOBOTS, ROLL OUT!

Good Evening World,
AAAh, whata great day we've been blessed to live. It was pretty busy with organizing a few things for some customers. Today we met with Donald and Samantra, future husband and wife to be! All I can say is, WHAT-A FANTASTIC COUPLE! These guys are great and I'm proud to announce Funky Monkey Cakes will be working for them! We sat and discussed ideas for their cakes and I'm TOO EXCITED to build 'em! Gosh I feel blessed to have received this couple. I just learned a few things about myself today...I must be a Dragon Ball Z fan! I was shouting out names and things about DBZ that I didn't remember but somehow it all came out of my mouth! It was in me all along...Hahaha! I do love DBZ and that's the only hint I'm giving you about this couples Wedding! You will just have to keep tuned for the juicy stuff coming up in June, 2010.

The work begins with the leader of the AutoBots! Yes folks, you guessed it, OPTIMUS PRIME! Whata-hunk! (giggling!) Optimus Prime is my favorite character! The leader of the Autobots and last of the Primes. ...Maybe I know to much? LOL! But maybe all that love is what will make the work that much better.

I know the little guy who's going to receive him will be one happy camper! Of course when the work is complete, I will have the pics posted to our website and here too! I better get some sleep now! I pray everyone will have a great night and great morning tomorrow.
